Sinahavalokan :Good to follow in our day to day Life

Sinhavalokan, is a sanskrit word. When I learnt about the word for the first time, it seemed very deep and strong to understand. according to Indian literature works, the practice of Sinhvalokan was followed by our ancestors. When I got to know the meaning of it from my mother in the form of a small narration, I could see that most of us already are following this in our day to day life.

The word means that Lion, "Simha", while moving forward takes a glimpse of the path it has walked so far by turning back. This it does now and then while walking ahead. Okay, thats the narrative meaning of the sanskrit word. Actual Literal meaning would be RETROSPECTION.

We in a way or the other do this. If we talk about our childhood., we were suppose to take several tests before the  final exam. Here we are retrospecting the lessons learnt through out the year before the final exam. This thought process made me think, should we follow this in work place more frequently to improve the quality of the deliverables/process followed? Luckily in our organisation, yes, we do follow this in the Engineering developemnt cycles.
The next question in, my mind was, what do we need to retrospect? Should we appreciate the postive outcomes  or do we need to look at the negative aspects for correction?
Appreciating the Positive outcomes can give us an encouragement to move forward. Looking back at the unresolved issues can give us a notification to be alert on the issue raised. This process can also make us notice the points
  • where the scope of improvement exists
  • review the improvement process for deliverables/process.
  • Know where we stand now in terms of deliverables/process.
  • Are there questions raised on what is followed.
  • Is there a place which requires an immiediate attention.
The practice of this throughout all the functional units of the organisation, from lower functional unit to the higher levels, can create a better organisational practices..
